Most boys own a laptop or a game systems like the Wii, DSi, PS3, or Xbox. Some still like traditional toys like Legos and models. Consider gifts that will add to their existing software and hobbies.

Great Gift Ideas For Boys Ages 8-18

This year the biggest thing to hit the market is the new Xbox Kinect. Basically, what this new $150 expansion part does is take an Xbox and turn it into a Wii giving the Xbox motion and sensor capabilities to play action games just like the Wii. It will come standard in all new Xbox 360 machines this year. However, if the child already has an Xbox, be prepared to shell out $150 for the new gadget.

This year will be a movie year. Disney Pixar Cars is still really popular and Disney has brought out a whole new line of Cars character including a stream of new Mater characters like Monster Truck Mater. Even Lego has jumped into Disney character business. There are Disney Cars and Toy Story 3 Lego play sets available this year for children ages 2-7.

Speaking of Toy Story 3, it was just released on DVD this past week and Disney is hoping to cash in on the profits with all kinds of toys and merchandise related to the movie. Also, action pack thrillers were very popular this year including Iron Man and Transformers. Many boys will be asking for Iron Man masks and Transformer robots. Two new movies are on their way. The New Harry Potter movie will be out next month and the creator of Star Wars plans to release all the movies once again. This time in 3D.

Legos and Building Sets

Legos and building sets have been about as traditional as cars, trucks and plastic soldiers when it comes to gifts boys love to receive. However Lego has taken their toys to the next level with a new line of Lego board games this year and an online game called Lego Universe. There are many options when choosing a lego set. There are collector pieces for boys and men of all ages. Some boys prefer the traditional bucket of legos while some want the latest Harry Potter or Star Wars set. From medieval knights and castles to build your own robots and city sets, there is a lego set for everyone and every interest.

Family Board Games

This year, two new electronic games have hit the market. One is Mindflex. It was suppose to be released last year. Manufacturers must have worked out all the bugs because it is definitely a hot seller this year. It's a fun game where the harder one concentrates the greater the reward. The second game is called Loopz. It's similar to the old game Simon. It's a game that tests quick reflexes and memory skills.

Other Things to Consider When Choosing Gifts

Choosing a gift for a boy takes a little guesswork. Is the boy all about computers and gaming systems or would he rather be outside playing sports? Some never go anywhere without their Ripstick or skate boards. Others are lost without their iPod or DSi. Do the research, and if all else fails buy a gift card or put cash in a Christmas card. Letting them choose their own gift always makes them happy!
