The season of giving doesn’t have to stop after the December holidays. There are a number of worthy charities that are always in need of generous donations year-round. From supporting those in monetary need to those looking for a cure to a horrific disease, there is always a charity that is willing to accept generous donations. While all charities would appreciate your donations throughout the year, here is a list of three charities which will use your dollars most efficiently.

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF)

In these times of economic instability and downturn, there are fewer and fewer students that are able to afford college tuition. According to the UNCF website, 62% of students who receive scholarships sponsored by the UNCF come from families with yearly incomes less than $25,000. By supporting this organization with your donation, you will be helping minority students attain their academic goals and improve their lives through education.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF)

The BCRF received an A+ rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy, a watchdog organization for charitable giving. Over 90% of donations to the BCRF go toward research and awareness for breast cancer. This is a much higher rating than some of the other more well-known breast cancer charities. Only 3.2% of your donation will be used to fund administrative costs. A higher percentage of your dollars will go to research when you choose to donate to the BCRF.

National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH)

Founded originally in 1983, the NAEH is now the leading voice for homelessness in the United States. The Homelessness Research Institute is the research branch of the NAEH and provides important data which is used to education policy leaders and the public on issues relating to homelessness. This charity and advocacy group earned highest rankings from two charity watchdog organizations, which allows donors to have full faith that charitable giving will be used efficiently to help end homelessness in the United States.

There are a number of charities that will use your donations wisely and efficiently. These three charities were chosen based on the author’s research on efficient charitable giving, but is by no means a complete listing of excellent charitable organizations. When deciding which charities to direct your donations, be sure and check the websites of each organization and also watchdog sites such as charitywatch.org to ensure the organization will use your money wisely.
