What stores are open on Thanksgiving? Keep this list handy if you need to run to the store to get something you forgot or want pre-Black Friday deals.

Although most people think of Thanksgiving as a day to spend visiting family, a few stores will be open for business on November 25, 2010. Thanksgiving travelers might need to grab some groceries along the way, and some of these stores are offering Black Friday shopping deals early for people who are willing to forgo football and shop instead.

Walmart is Open Thanksgiving Day

Almost every Thanksgiving traveler will eventually pass by a Walmart store, which is handy because Walmart will be open for Thanksgiving. Unless local laws prevent them from having extreme holiday hours, Walmart will stay open in part to prevent Black Friday shopping frenzies from causing accidents. On November 11, 2009 ABC news reported that Walmart stores would be staying open longer, starting on "Thanksgiving morning and remain open through Friday evening, rather than closing Thanksgiving evening, and reopening early on Black Friday." Read more about Walmart's Black Friday shopping deals for information on what they have planned this week.

Sears Opens for the First Time on Thanksgiving

Sears will have more limited hours than Walmart, but the store will also be open on Thanksgiving. In areas where Sears is allowed to be open, their store hours will be from 7 until noon. Sandra Guy of the Chicago Sun Times points out how unusual it is for the retailer to be open, saying that "Sears will open on Thanksgiving Day for the first time in its 124-year history." Sears will also have some Black Friday specials while they are open. Sears has some great Black Friday electronics deals this year.

Old Navy Starts Gobblepalooza on Thanksgiving

Old Navy will be open on Thanksgiving, so if your weather report turns colder than expected while you are traveling, you can hop over to Old Navy to get some cute sweaters to wear during all the family Thanksgiving pictures.

Old Navy started a site just for their Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales, but be warned: turn the volume down on your computer before you open the Gobblepalooza site. From there, you can look up store hours and find out what shopping deals are available at your local Old Navy store.

Kmart Starts Black Friday on Thanksgiving

I4U News is reporting that Kmart stores will be open from 6 am to 9 pm on Thanksgiving. They will also have some Black Friday deals for sale. Like Walmart, most Kmarts have some groceries and drugstore types of items, which could be handy for people who have last minute guests arrive or people who need to grab a few quick ingredients.

Now that stores are starting to stay open on Thanksgiving, it changes the holiday a little bit from a traditionally family day. Instead of having to plan everything in advance, you can run to the store to pick up a few forgotten items. Open stores are more convenient for shoppers, but whoever is working will have to be away from their families on a very family-oriented holiday.

Whilst some retailers have already released their day after Thanksgiving ads, Walmart is keeping its 2010 Black Friday specials under wraps. This year, consumers will have to wait until just before Thanksgiving to find out what kinds of holiday deals to expect at Walmart’s Black Friday sale, but they can get a jump start on holiday shopping with a new type of event.

Walmart Day After Thanksgiving Sale 2010 – Black Friday Ad Circular Release Date

So when exactly will the Walmart 2010 day after Thanksgiving ad circular be released?

Blackfriday.info has already posted an update about this. For now, the company does not plan to officially release its circular to the public until November 21st, but the folks at blackfriday.info believe they may receive authorization to do so earlier than that if it is leaked elsewhere online.

Pre-Black Friday Sale Online & In Stores – The Amazing Walmart Electronics Event

Last year, Suite101 covered the noteworthy Black Friday doorbuster deals at Walmart. This year, something even more exciting has replaced this information – the ability to shop a pre-Black Friday sale in stores and online in early November.

On November 6th and 7th, customers can attend the “The Amazing Walmart Electronics Event.” The sale begins at 8 .m. in store on November 6th. Deals will be available online as well, although the exact start time for walmart.com deals isn’t listed. What kinds of specials can you find? Among the savings will be discounts on iTunes gift cards, Vizio LCD televisions, Sony PS3 bundles, and Compaq laptops.

What Time Does Walmart Open on Black Friday?

Walmart has historically opened its doors to Black Friday shoppers at 5 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving. It is likely that the same will hold true for November 26, 2010, but customers should make sure to double-check this opening time.

This information should be available on Thanksgiving day, if not sooner. You can usually find Black Friday hours on walmart.com or in the printed store circular that comes out the week of Thanksgiving.

Walmart Hours of Operation & Locations – Store Locator Online

If you want to try to hit several Walmart stores on the same day or just need to double-check where the closest one is located, you'll need to find out your area Walmarts' hours of operation and locations.

A simple way to find the Walmart store closest to you is to use the store locator function on walmart.com. A search by city and state or zip code will reveal the closest store locations, including an exact street address, its hours of operation, and typically a link to the local store ad.

Attend the Walmart Day After Thanksgiving Sale – Black Friday, November 26, 2010

Black Friday sales seemingly expand each year. What used to be a day after Thanksgiving event has expanded to the earlier weeks of November as well as the Monday following Thanksgiving (Cyber Monday). Whatever is on your Christmas list, there should be plenty of opportunities to obtain some of the larger items, especially electronics, at a discount throughout the month of November.

Suite101 has profiled the Walmart Black Friday ad for the past two years as well. If you’d like to see what kinds of special day after Thanksgiving deals were available in 2008 and 2009, see these articles:

As if it's Black Friday specials weren't enough to get customers in the door, Walmart is also offering 1% cash back on gasoline purchases through December 31, 2010 to customers who use its prepaid debit as payment. To get a MoneyCard, you must visit a Walmart store in person. To learn more about this limited time offer, see the article Walmart MoneyCard - Reloadable Prepaid Visa Debit Card.
